How are we going to get news out to Liverpool, about Liverpool, without a daily newspaper?

Trinity Mirror have announced that the Daily Post is to be produced weekly from January.  And it’s not just Liverpool but the whole Merseyside area and North Wales that will be without a daily newspaper.

There isn’t a dedicated TV presence on Merseyside. Both the ITV and BBC presences are based in Manchester.    There are web services such as The Drum, the business desk, and How Do.  All publish news, none are based in the city.  We do have information from both public and private sector sites such as The Mersey Partnership and Liverpool Vision.   And we do have strong local radio from the BBC and commercial stations based here. Locally based we have Liverpool Confidential and the Trinity Mirror site.

Will this be enough to cover the business activity in the city?  Liverpool is a city where things happen.  Other businesses and the public need to know this.  Not just the doom messages pedalled by so many in the national media.  Without doubt times are hard but we have stuff to celebrate.  More importantly Liverpool business doesn’t want to be an add on to Yorkshire or other North West area news.

If you want news about the city and the area, to hear what others are doing, succeeding at.  And where the opportunities are.  Where will you go?

We liked and trusted the Daily Post and will still have it as a weekly.  At YBE we suspect we will need more than this in terms of local business news.  What do you think?  Where will your news be printed, posted, talked about and heard?
