Pauline Daniels spoke to Your Business eZine Editor Cath Ames.
Pauline Daniels opened the Liverpool Actors’ Studio in Seel Street in May 2007, realising a personal goal to provide a platform for new artistic talent. Explaining the reason behind setting up the Theatre, Pauline says: “LIPA attracts and turns out great performing arts students who come to Liverpool and never want to leave. On top of that Liverpool is a city brimming with great local talent. But they need somewhere to perform and show their work. Liverpool Actors’ Studio provides this for anyone who works in theatre – be they writers, actors, or light and sound technicians”. Five busy and successful years later Liverpool Actors’ Studio still showcases new talent and in the process puts on a range of great productions.
Pauline comments: “We have a very loyal following and are well supported. No, it’s not easy financially, but rewards aren’t always in money. When I commission a new play or hire a new actress and hear them whooping in the corridor, that is as much of a reward. Seeing the faces of people who are new to performing receive a standing ovation – well you can’t buy that.” Pauline herself is, as most people know, a multi-talented Comedienne, Actress, and Singer. She appeared on The Comedians in the 1980s, in a multitude of local and national theatres including runs in the West End, in some very well known TV shows and is also a radio presenter. She remains rooted in Liverpool. As she herself says: “I love Liverpool but can’t claim to be a true scouser as I was born on the dark side of the water! But this city has nurtured me.” “If I was going to give advice to anyone starting out in business, or in their chosen career, I would just say give something back. Oh, and I don’t know anyone who gives up in this city. Times are tough but opportunities are out there.”
Pauline’s autobiography: “My Story” is subtitled: Stand Up and Be Counted. In line with her philosophy as much as a reference to her comedy roots. Pauline is starring in Shirley Valentine at the Birkenhead Town Hall on 28th and 29th February 2012 as a special event in aid of the Mayor of Wirral’s charities.
