Fourteen people from Merseyside and west Lancashire have been forced to pay back £1m after their part in a £1.2m tax scam.
Michael Kitchen, 47, who worked for the HMRC diverted £1.2m in tax payments to his 13 co-defendants, who were all sentenced earlier this year at Liverpool Crown Court.
The sentence for Kitchen and his co-defendants is eighteen and a half years, and, upon failure of payment, could lead to an extended sentence.
Kitchen, who must pay £175k, was involved in allocating payments to the tax accounts of his friends and associates.
