Sony reveals a 3D future to the next generation of digital games developers

Digital games company, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) will be visiting Liverpool on 13th February to give youngsters from 12 to 19 a spectacular glimpse of their own future… in 3D.

The Stereoscopic 3D Experience, SCEE’s keynote session, will be the major highlight of I ♥ Gaming – an event designed for teenagers interested in gaming and digital futures. Revealing Sony’s mind-blowing view of electronic gaming – where it’s headed and how our entertainment will be shaped in decades to come – the session doubles as an invitation for teenagers to consider a future career in the industry.

I ♥ Gaming, hosted by North Liverpool Academy, offers a real-world taste of digital programming, with workshops and exhibitions in 3D design, interactive TV and gaming, creating a game, designing an app and starting your own gaming business.

"We're excited to be involved in the event and to share the experience of 3D gaming with the next generation of developers. We are pleased to see the Academy work towards providing their students with industry informed skills that are very much needed for the future of gaming,”  says Simon Benson, Senior Development Manager with SCEE.

As well SCEE, a number of national and local digital businesses will be on hand to talk to the young people about the exciting future that’s on offer – right here, right now.

Companies such as Onteca, Setgo, Evolution Studios and mobile app developer Apposing will join Sony in encouraging students to be part of the digital revolution, while the Academy will introduce prospective students to its new specialist school, The Studio.

Dave Brown, MD of Apposing, an emerging mobile app development studio based at FACT, is looking forward not only to talking to potential students, but also to supporting them at the school, and working with them as future employees.

Dave himself started in the design industry at the age of 19, starting up his own app development business in 2010. Already, he has an impressive portfolio of clients including Liam Gallagher’s Pretty Green clothing range, Unilever, BBC, CSL and FACT. Apposing is also designing the app for the Global Entrepreneurship" Congress, which comes to the city in March.

"It was my love of design and technology that really motivated me when I left school. I learnt from my experience, and worked my way up to becoming a creative director with an award winning full service design agency. Then, when mobile apps came along, I found a new direction as I saw a gap in the market. I set up Apposing, and it has grown into something quite substantial over just two years,” he says.

“The beauty of new Studio school is that students will not only have the know-how to make their mark on the digital industry, but will have exposure to the experts at an early age. There’s a desperate need for developers in this industry. If young people have the skills and business insight, as well as the drive and passion, they’ll be the innovators, and entrepreneurs, of the future.”
