Business Careers Service Pilot Coming to Wirral

THE government has agreed to allow Britain's first business careers service aimed at teenage girls to be set up in the Wirral. By the spring the region's leading female entrepreneurs will visit local secondary schools in a bid to inspire them to follow their lead.

The scheme is part of MP Esther McVey’s strategy to show girls that nothing is out of their reach.  Following her campaign Business, Innovation and Skills Ministers Mark
Prisk and John Hayes approved  the scheme whole heartedly.

The scheme will be good for the area and fits with the government's agenda of boosting career advice with the help of inspirational role models.  McVey confirms:

"It is a real breakthrough. I shall be having further discussions with Department of Education ministers and officials to sort out the details, but we now have full governmental approval. Wirral will be the trailblazer and the scheme should then be rolled out across the country."

The role models will visit schools during lunchtimes and after hours, depending on the agreement of head teachers, and initially the target will be 11 to 13-year-olds.

Those already signed up include Sharon Hilditch, owner of Crystal Clear beauty products, Julia Hands, chair of Hand-Picked Hotels, Pineapple founder Debbie Moore, Jay Hunt, owner of Violet film productions, Vicky Evans, managing director of House of Paws, and Maxine Benson, founder of Everywoman, Britain's biggest business network.
