Liverpool Community Health staff take plane leap for charity

Eleven members of staff from Liverpool Community Health (LCH) NHS Trust are taking a sponsored sky dive to raise money for charity.

Organised by Ciarán Friel, e-Learning Developer for Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust, the challenge will be raising money for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice, Marie Curie Cancer Care, The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust, and Merseyside Head and Neck Cancer Centre.

Ciarán Friel explains, “I decided to organise a sponsored sky dive for myself and colleagues at LCH in order to challenge ourselves, and at the same time promote awareness and raise money for some local health charities that are close to our hearts.

“The original idea was that we’d all do a jump on the same day, but there’s been so much interest expressed by staff, that we’ve had to add two additional dates to accommodate everyone who has committed to take part.”

The LCH team will now be taking their sky dives spread over three different dates throughout July and August, with the first jumps taking place this Saturday.

The staff members taking the leap include: Ciarán Friel, Ian Bailey, Sue McCarthy, Tom Smith, Rob Kyle, Alison Thompson, Tom Diaz, Samir Patel, Michelle Meredith, Catherine Kennedy and Paul Bridson.

He continues, “None of us have ever taken a sky dive before. Jumping from a plane at 10,000 feet above ground level and putting your life in the hands of a polyester sheet is a bit of a scary idea when you stop and think about it too much - but it’s in aid of some really great causes, so very much worth it in our opinion.

“We want to raise as much money and awareness as possible for our chosen charities, which do an incredible job supporting people within our local community through difficult times.”

He adds, “We’ve already had over £700 donated since launching our sponsorship website page, but we’re hoping to raise a lot more yet so we’re asking as many friends, work colleagues and members of the public as possible to dig deep and to each make a small donation. All cash donated will go direct to the chosen charities.”
