Matou Restaurant gears up for a summer of celebrations

Liverpool’s fashionable new waterfront pan-Asian restaurant Matou is gearing up for a summer of celebrations. Throughout the summer, Liverpool will host a spectacular season of ‘On the Waterfront’ events at the docks and Pier Head.

July in Liverpool marks the centenary of the world-famous Liver Buildings, as well as the much anticipated opening of the new Museum of Liverpool on 19 July.

As part of these celebrations, from 22 to 24 July, a spectacular 3D Son et Lumiere display of images will be projected onto the Liverpool Building, celebrating Liverpool’s great past, present and future.

At Matou’s rooftop terrace - conveniently situated above the Ferry Terminal at Pier Head with privileged views overlooking the waterfront - people will be able to relax and enjoy a first class view.

Throughout August, the Pier Head will come alive with a spectacular sound and light festival on August 14 (9pm-10pm) and August 15 (8.30pm-10.30pm), as part of ‘Art on the Waterfront’ events. There’ll also be a family-friendly daytime programme of activities throughout the weekend, including interactive animations, street performances and water-themed installations. Where better to sit and soak up the atmosphere?

Then later in the month, International Beatles Week (24 – 30 July), and the Matthew Street Music Festival (28 – 29 August) will see outdoor stages at Pier Head and venues throughout the city celebrating Liverpool’s incredible heritage in music.

Co-owner of Matou Restaurant, Billy Riley said: “It’s a really exciting time for the city of Liverpool. There’s so much going on this summer, especially around the docks and Pier Head which is quickly establishing itself as one of the coolest spots in town - and at Matou our guests will be able to enjoy a ring-side view of all the action.”

He adds, “It’s fantastic to see how Liverpool’s Pier Head is being transformed, This exciting summer of events will see the area buzzing with life, and we hope many locals and visitors to the city alike, will join us to enjoy what promises to be a thrilling summer on the waterfront.”

The festivities don’t stop with the end of the summer either. On the waterfront’s Mersey River Festival, taking place from the 8 – 16 September, also promises to be a memorable event for all ages, featuring a Royal Navy visit, historic Tall Ships and Cunard Cruise Liners including the new Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mary 2 passing by.
